Library

Library is a place of information for learning. It is a curated collection of information made accessible in physical digital form or both for reference or borrowing. Libraries preserve a valuable record of culture and serve as an essential link between the present and the succeeding generations. It offers people free access to a wealth of information which they cannot find elsewhere, whether online, in print or in person. It is a location where one can create, collect, update and manage files.

 Information Science:-

Information science is a field primarily concerned with the analysis, collection, classification, storage, dissemination and protection of information in the field of study for application and usage of knowledge. Library information Centre is user friendly. It provides exhaustive information to meet the intellectual requirements of faculty and students. The conducive environment of the library facilitates uninterrupted reading. Multiple resources are available in reference and stock sections.

SDMSM Kalasala college which was established in the year 1983 encourages ideal atmosphere in the library so that every student   can utilize the abundant resources.  At present the library stocks 49,087 volumes, 101 journals/magazines, standard textbooks, Reference books, books on Career Guidance, Personality Development, Competitive Exams, Encyclopedias, Rare books, Dictionaries, Women studies, Back volumes, Special reports, Special references, yearbooks etc.  The open access system ensures that no student is likely to be handicapped for want of reference material at any time.

The Library   maintains 15 systems, including server for providing free internet access to the students and has   Integrated Library Management Software.   NewGenLib 3.1.5 with 10 systems which facilitate OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue)

Admissions:-

  1. Present students and staff are eligible for membership.
  2. Every user should compulsorily register her name in the gate register available at the entrance.
  3. They have to register their names in Inflibnet N-list register.

Privileges of Members:-

Teaching Staff      —         Unlimited

Non-Teaching      —          4

Students               —         3

  Borrower’s Books    with barcode   are maintained for each member. The borrowers shall verify the condition of the book at the time of issue and they are   responsible for any loss or damage.  Each member is eligible for taking 3 books in her account. Reference Books must be used in the library premises only.  Librarian may recall any book at any time

Monday – Friday 9.00 A.M – 5.30 P.M

Saturday   9.00   A.M – 1.00 P.M

General Rules: –

  1. Identity Card is compulsory for getting access to the library.
  2. Silence has to be maintained.
  3. No discussion is permitted inside the library
  4. Registration is compulsory to become a library member prior to using the library resources.
  5. No personal belongings are allowed inside the library
  6. Textbooks, printed materials and issued book s are not allowed in the library
  7. Using mobile phones and headphones is strictly prohibited in the library
  8. Students should enter the name of the book issued and sign in the register kept at the entrance counter
  9. Issued books will be checked by the staff at the entrance counter.
  10. The librarian may recall any book from any member at any time and the member shall return the same immediately.
  11. Library borrower cards are not transferable.  The borrower is responsible for the books borrowed on her card.
  12. Refreshment of any kind shall not be permitted in the library premises.

 Circulation Issue System: –

                Books will be issued on presentation of the library pass book along with the ID Card.  Students are instructed to check the books while borrowing and they will be responsible for any type of damage or mutilation noticed at the time of return.

Overdue Charges: –

          Books borrowed should be returned on or before the due date stamped, if returned late overdue fine will be charged for the delayed period.

Book Lost:-

                  If the books are lost, then the borrower has to replace the books of the same condition or latest edition.

Validity of Cards: –

        Library borrower cards are valid for the entire duration of the course to avail library facilities.

 No due Certificate: –

            Each student shall obtain No Due Certificate from the library after returning all the books issued, and after paying the outstanding dues if any.

 Core of Library Books: –

           Students are requested to handle the books/ Journal very carefully; marking with pencil, writing on highlighting, tearing the pages or mutilating the same in any other way will be viewed very seriously.  In such case reader shall be held responsible if these are brought to the notice of the library staff at the time of issue.

Reference Section: –

        This section has Encyclopedia, Dictionaries Textbooks Reference books etc., which are only available for reference.  User can make use of these resources in the library only.

 Journal Section: –

In this section Journals, General magazines and newsletters are available.  They are arranged alphabetically.     The latest issues are arranged on display rack and other previous issues are arranged in the storage place.  Bound Volumes of periodicals are arranged separately and are meant for reference within the library.
