Eco Club

 

VISION: Connecting the students to the environment

The journey of the institution towards Green Lifestyle has pioneered ever since the establishment of Eco-club on the campus. It is associated with the National Green Corps, is a programme of The Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India launched in 2006 with an objective to promote Environmental Discipline and Environmental Responsibility among the students using Environmental Awareness as the medium.

 

MISSION:  To implement Go Green ideas which are simple to follow, easy to practice, cost effective and have a huge impact on the sustainability of the environment and natural resources.

Environmental protection programs taken up by the college for the students:

  • Environmental education is introduced under part-I of the curriculum since 2005-06.
  • Guest lectures and workshops are arranged to create environmental awareness among students.
  • To create awareness of environmental protection the college celebrates World Environment Day in   the month of June.
  • The College Botanical garden with medicinal plants is maintained by the members of the Eco-Club.
  • Placards and captions about conservation of water, power, and protection of trees and to avoid plastic pollution are displayed on the campus to attract the attention of students.
  • Back wall horticulture garden, roof top garden, nutrition garden, keyhole garden and micro garden are being developed in the college premises.
  • Pamphlets on environmental protection are distributed to the public.

  • Received appreciation for practising innovative ways of Solid Waste Management and Conservation of Bio diversity in 2018 from the Honorable C.M. of A.P. Sri Chandra Babu Naidu.    

 

High lights of the Eco Club:

  • Every week the students spend three hours in maintaining the environment of the campus.
  • Awareness is created among the students about segregation of the waste, how to make the best use of biodegradable waste by following three methods of composting.
  1. Heap style
  2. Pit style
  3. NADEP style
  • Funds are raised for the Eco-club by selling produce of the garden.
  • Rain water harvesting techniques and water conservation methods like mulching are followed and students collected rain fall data.
  • The institution has tie-up with Delta Paper Mill, Bheemavaram to sell out dated examination and waste papers.
  • Adopting eco-friendly methods and motivating the public about them.
  • Three magazines entitled Down To Earth, Medicinal and Aromatic Plant, Indian Journal of National Products and Resources are subscribed. Majority of students are highly motivated towards environmental protection and bio diversity.
  • Field trips are arranged for the students to expose them to various Eco systems.
