Overview

The Department of Botany was established in 1986 and has made its vision to unravel the wondrous mysteries of the Plant Sciences to the students. The strong hold of the department is promoting excellence in teaching methodologies, encouraging practical orientation in the core subject, and development in the field of study. It is well equipped with Herbarium, Museum, Library, Laboratory etc and offers rich learning experience to the students.

Mission

To provide a student-centered and profession-oriented higher education that bestows academic environment to demonstrate and promote creative, intellectual inquiry with positive relationships among students and faculty that enhance the learning experience and make it a fruitful and outstanding one for future application in the dynamic world.

To generate knowledge and produce researchers, leaders and graduates in various fields in Plant Sciences, Microbial Sciences and Biotechnology and capable of providing solutions to industrial, health, agricultural and environmental challenges.

Course aims and learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to ensure that you can achieve an up‐to‐date level of understanding of plant science.
Our objective is to provide training in scientific and transferable skills through modular lecture courses, research projects, written work, seminars and supervisions.
At the end of the course one should have increased:

Capacity to think critically
Ability to design
Execute an experiment, Confidence and ability in communicating ideas.

This will serve as a lasting and practical basis for a career, in research, industry or academia – as well as teaching, media, law, commerce, government or management.

Objectives of the Department of Botany are:

To comprehend functional categories in plant sciences.

To develop a strong foundation in fundamental science for scientific understanding.
To develop and promote scientific literacy among students.
To equip young women with aptitude and respect for nature.
To question, hypothesize and make informed conclusions.
Scientific skills of communication.
Experimental approaches in Skill based evaluation.
Proper use and knowledge of scientific materials and instruments.
Knowledge acquired to be applied for socio-economic growth and benefit .
1. To promote research culture for self and to benefit the society in large.
2. To empower them with life skills through effective guidance and counselling.
