Physics

Overview

The Department of Physics was established in the year 1986. It provides a dynamic and diverse environment for the training of undergraduate students. The two cluster areas of the Department are Materials Science, Analog & Digital Electronics.

Students benefit not only from interaction with the teaching but also from lectures given by eminent personalities like senior faculty, research physicists, & post-doctoral physicists, scientists etc. The Department has the pride possession of some rare and exclusive instruments. The Department has an excellent infrastructure of labs with all the necessary equipment and efficient faculty members who work hard and motivate the students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. They encourage students to participate in Science Fests organized by various colleges through presentation of working models, many internship projects, power point presentations, quiz programmes and other innovative projects. The Department arranges regular Industrial Visits to students to know about the role of Physics behind the latest technology in various fields.

The Department was declared as the Best Department by the Institution in 2008-2009. The Department has well maintained mentoring system. 30 students are assigned to a mentor who continuously interacts with each student & pays personal attention to uplift students as per their academic capabilities. They also pay the attention not only in academic aspects but also in the personal problems of the students.

Special attention is focussed on advanced learners by motivating them to participate in National Seminars/Conferences, to prepare working models, project exhibition with innovative ideas. Career Counselling Programmes are also arranged by the Department to encourage the students to prepare for competitive exams like P.G.CET, ICET, State and Central Govt. competitive exams. The Department arranges Seminars/Guest Lectures/Workshops/ by inviting eminent personalities besides the class- room teaching.

The faculty members encourage students to participate in various other events organised by other colleges to bring out the hidden talents of the students.

Some important days like A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Death Anniversary, National Energy Conservation Day are celebrated by conducting academic competitions to honour the talents of students .The Department also organizes various Social Awareness Programmes like Rallies on ‘Pollution Prevention Measures’ , ‘Sound Pollution Prevention Methods’ etc. The Department also takes up several extension activities like Practical Orientation Programme to Government school students, Distribution of Books and Sponsoring Fees to Children of HIV Affected Families and also Distribution of Clothes to Poor People.

Our students secured many Prizes over the years in various National/State/Institutional level academic competitions and brought laurels to the Department and the Institution.
